Reflective Piece

Here is your reflective piece to do after you have presented your piece to the class. For some reason the table(rubric does not transfer over)

ORAL PRESENTATION REFLECTION- Macbeth

In a well developed multi para piece please address these points. Remember you are able to use one of your revised blog entries to help with this piece of writing.
t
1. How does Macbeth (the play) connect to at least two essential questions? You should refer to your scene but do not feel limited to your scene only. Please make sure your writing is well supported with examples and quotes to back up what you are saying. (quite a bit of detail please) Hint: Look back to your blog entries where I gave you feedback. Develop those pieces.

2. What did you learn about working in groups? Explain.

3. Overall, something important that I have learned is…because

4. Something that I noticed that I need to work on for next time is…because

5. Overall something that I am proud of is…because

6. If you were to divide a pie with the % work each group member contributed, how would you divide up your pie, including yourself.

Your final mark for the presentation will be based on 50% group presentation and 50% individual reflection.

Macbeth Project

The scene that I chose to do was act 5, scene 8-9.  In this part of the story Macduff is confronting Macbeth regarding the sins he has committed.  Macbeth and Macduff exchange words then fight a bit but then Macbeth tells, ''Despair thy charm. And let the angel whom thou still hast served tell thee, Macduff was from his mother's woumb untimely ripp'd.'' (Act 5 scene 8 lines 17-20).  So basically Macbeth was telling Macduff that he can't be killed by any man born of woman and here it is saying that Macduff wasn't born of woman.  This frightens Macbeth but he decides to fight him anyways. I do not think it was the best idea for Macbeth to fight Macduff because he had already killed Macduff's whole family so Macduff would be pretty motivated to kill Macbeth.  Anyways they fight and Macbeth gets beheaded.  All of this connects with the essential question ''how do we deal with conflicting elements within our personalities?'' because Macbeth wanted power so much that he completely destroyed his reputation.  He couldn't deal with the control he had over people and he made a lot of stupid decisions like killing Macduff's whole family. Probably not the most thought out plan.  To sum it up I think that because of Macbeth's urge to have power and his guilty conscience made him go insane and do things that he would later regret.

Macbeth Project

For my Macbeth project, I chose to do Act 5, Scene 1. In this scene, Lady Macbeth is sleepwalking and holds a candle in her hands. She is mumbling shocking recreations of the murders and is obsessed with washing the "blood" off her hands. Two EQ's that might go with this scene are "How far is one willing to go to get what they desire?" and "How do we deal with conflicting elements in our personalities?" These two go hand in hand as they represent the devil and angel on your shoulder. One side good, one side bad. Lady Macbeth obviously thought that she could handle her husband going through with the murders, but she was overcome with guilt and eventually commits suicide because of it. "Wash your hands" she says, "I tell you yet again, Banquo's buried; he cannot come out on's grave" (pg. 213 lines 57-59). This quote from Lady Macbeth is admitting to knowing of the murder of Banquo and that her guilty conscience is trying to do the right thing and tell someone as it believes what was done was too wrong to stay a secret. She is trying to deal with her conflicting consciences, which was all caused by going too far to get what she desired most

Macbeth project YO !

Macbeth at the start was very confusing and the old english language didn't help, but as i read and analyze the book itself it's getting simpler to understand. The scenes i am doing are 5.8 and 5.9. The E.Q.s i picked are: How far is one willing to "go" to get what they desire most? and What could destroy or build a person's self worth? These to questions relate to the scenes a lot since this is the moment where Macbeth's confidence is at the highest point and also at its lowest point. At the beginning he believed no man could kill him, "I have no words: My voice is in my sword," (page 247) but soon loses all his confidence when Macduff announces, "Macduff was from his mother's womb. Untimely ripp'd." (page 247) Before Macbeth's death you could see how his greed ate him alive and how it made him believe he was invinsible.

Sincerely, Miguel.

Macbeth project

I understand Macbeth for the most part.  An essential question that I could use for the book is "How far is one willing to "go"to get what they desire most?", I think this essential question will work well because Macbeth did go very far to get what he desired most.  Which was power. "Stars, hide your fires; ' Let not light see my black and deep desires." This quote shows that he is ashamed of what he has done.

Macbeth Act 1

How far is one willing to ''go'' to get what they desire most?

In Act 1 of Macbeth, we see how people can be so eager to be in control of everything that they will go to any extent to get what they desire.  So basically at the beginning of the story the third witch said to Macbeth ''All hail, Macbeth! that shalt be king hereafter.'' (pg 23)  The witches are telling Macbeth that he is goin to end up being king in the future.

When Macbeth hears this he starts thinking that he could become king if only he was able to kill the king in power at that time which was Duncan.  He runs through all of the consequences that would follow if he murdered Duncan and decides not to go through with it but unfortunately for him he told his wife about this possibility already.  His wife then says he is not a true man and Macbeth resents this so he decides he will kill the king and he and his wife start to plot.  As you can clearly see, Macbeth ends up killing Duncan and he takes the throne.

When I look at these cruel and inhumain events that lead up to the death of Duncan, it really makes me think about how some people will do anything just so they can have whatever they desire.  I realized that Macbeth is obsessed with the idea of being in control and doesnt put in too much thought on whether it would be the right choice.  Although at one point he had his mind set on not killing the king, he got some motivation from Lady Macbeth who persuaded him into killing Duncan.  This made me realize that it was not as much Macbeth who was willing to kill the king but his wife.  His wife was the one who did not give up on the idea of killing Macbeth and she eventually got the idea stuck into Macbeth's head.  So in result we can say that Macbeth and his wife willing to take that extra step just for what they desired the most.

Act 1 : EQ: How Far is one willing to "go" to get what they desire most?

Depending on the person, people will go to the farthest of lengths to get what they desire the most and in Macbeth's situation what he desires the most is to be king. Only one thing stands in the way and it's the current king. As well as wanting to get what he desires he wants to show his wife that he is manly enough to become king.  To become king and keep his wife happy he'd have to kill the current king.

While Lady Macbeth had no regrets and was pressuring Macbeth over the idea of killing the king, Macbeth was regretting what he was going to do. Macbeth respected the king and was loyal to him, but his wife was taking over his decisions and was liking the idea of people saying, " All hail, Macbeth !" (pg. 23) As well as the pressure from his wife he started to believe in the witches that had been right about the future twice before with "two truths" (pg 27). If he killed the king he would become king and a third prediction would come true.

Macbeth was known as a loyal, brave man who was an excellent soldier as well. He was highly respected by the king and was now thinking of killing the king himself while the king stayed over night at his house. His wife and him were so hooked with the idea of Macbeth becoming the king they were willing to commit a murder for it. Lady Macbeth convinced Macbeth by saying all he had to do was kill the king with the guards' daggers and to "leave all the rest" (pg. 43) to her.

Macbeth was not a bad man in the beginning of the story, but the desire of becoming king and the manipulation from Lady Macbeth was causing him to do something he might regret in the future and have nightmares about. Even though he may become king he would always live knowing he killed a friend just to get what he wanted.
